Visiting Hakone Shrine.

One of my English students took my mom and me on a tour of Hakone city in Kanagawa Prefecture. We had a great experience despite the rainy day. We encountered very few tourists thanks to the rain and the local volcano’s activity. Yes, I currently live near an active volcano. The Navy keeps me living my life on the edge …

Did I mention the 8.5 earthquake that hit Japan earlier this week?

Anyway.

Here are some pictures of Hakone Shrine’s famous torii gate in Lake Ashi. The pictures were taken on my iPhone and that’s me in the 2nd picture. I’m 5’3″, so, yes, the torii gate really is that enormous.

My mom and I have checked-off almost all of my remaining Japan bucket list items in the first 8 days of her visit. Very excited about the last 19 days of her visit, too!
