Becoming a “telephone commander”.

I learn so much from my husband.

He just informed me that becoming an O-4 will elevate him to a “telephone commander”.

What’s that, you ask? Oh, it’s just another ridiculously funny aspect of military life.

In the Navy, an O-4 is a Lieutenant Commander and an O-5 is a Commander.

On the telephone, O-4s often shorten their title to “Commander” … meaning (AND I QUOTE), “Suddenly, I can get more shit done!”

And that, my friends, is the high point of being an O-4, according to my husband.

Here’s hoping that selection list comes out soon. We assume that my husband’s name is on it, but I’m becoming increasingly impatient. Last year it was published on 3 June, and we’re coming up on 3 July. I can’t wait to celebrate my husband’s first promotion since we’ve been together. I look forward to any excuse to celebrate, especially during deployments!

Sadly, I head back to Japan tomorrow. I have so much to do this week that my head is already spinning. This was an awesome 15 day vacation, and it was so nice to see my husband for 6 of those 15 days. Port calls are awesome until they’re over. We now will go a much, much longer time until we see each other again, but we’ll get through it and I can’t wait to see him again 🙂
