I need to buckle down and get school work done this afternoon, but I just wanted to give a shout-out to my girl friends here in Japan. I hate deployments and I am so sad that my husband is so far away, but having friends to pass the time with makes ALL the difference in the world. We military wives truly get by with a little (okay, a LOT of) help from our friends.
I’ve spent the last two days completely caught-up with new adventures in and around Japan, and it is so satisfying to HAVE this time. I’m growing to appreciate passing the hours with other lonely women, and in that passage of time, forgetting how lonely we are.
In the last three days, I’ve had every meal (and many desserts!) with friends, I’ve attended a sumo wrestling tournament (pictures to follow!), I’ve gone shopping at two shrine sales, I’ve gone to several new places, I’ve had a Japanese cooking lesson, and I’ve laughed and smiled far more then I’ve felt lonely. This is so very good.
Thank you, friends! Cue the Golden Girls theme song.
PS – I think that this sentiment is true of most military relationships: when I am happy at home, my husband is happy and better able to do his job. So, you’re welcome, Navy!
